Tutoring approach
When tutoring, I focus on the student’s understanding of the concepts, rather than just recall. In discussion, I try to develop the student’s communication skills and work on ways of conveying ideas with precision, clarity and detail. I do a lot of work with past papers and exam technique, and also try to work on the student’s scientific enquiry skills.
It is important to try to build a friendly relationship of trust, and to allow the student to shape the tutoring to their own needs as far as possible.

Professional experience
Offline tutoring experience: more than 10 years
Online tutoring experience: 3-5 years
I am an A level biology examiner and in the past I have been an assistant chief examiner at GCSE.I have 27 years of teaching experience, 26 as a Head of Department. I am co-author of two GCSE textbooks and a contributory author to over 50 revision guides.
I have tutored both offline (16 years) and online (5 years).
I teach GCSE Science and biology, and AS/A2 biology.
I have taught pupils with a variety of learning difficulties, and have tutored pupils with dyslexia.
I am currently a chief moderator for GCSE coursework with one of the exam boards.
Qualifications
- BSc Hons, (Zoology), PhD, PGCE.
- CRB checked.
